How do you dance Salsa in Latin America?

How do you dance Salsa in Latin America?

      Hi ,
Thank you for answering this...I m not being sarcastic or arrogant - maybe I know nothing about salsa - Ive only danced myself for 2.5 years so what do I know? But..... I reallly want to want to find out! What beat are they listening to in some South American cities?

I am in Lima, Peru right now. Great music! And all the girls are dancing and smiling...exept when I try to dance with them!. LLive music every night, so Im not complaining! But...What the hell is going on here, when they dance salsa? Ive danced other places in South America, so I thought I knew the score. i can dance on 1, and a bit on 2, and ...Ive danced most cities and many congresses in Europe, ..so ...I know f??!ck!? I thought, I learnt how to dance "Cuban Style" for 6 months before I went to L.A style. And I am used to dancing a sort of Rueda Casino style in some South American places. And in Cusco I found I could dance on 1 if I put a little tap in between all the steps I made. ....but here in LIma....has anyone ever been here? Imagine trying to dance inside out, the opposite of everything youve ever been taught! Its not like they seem to here the 1,2,3 5,6,7 . They seem to dance 1,2,3,4,5,6. And the most annoying thing......I can see that, even if its different, they are sort of having as much fun as Ive ever had. And the singers and musicians..they are all doing this thing too...sort of backwards. The men always lead with their right foot forward....not like on two , I mean fully forward or fully back. And just when you decide you can dance if you dance like a woman, they go and start dancing on 2 for a few bars, and then ..well they just sort of ignore the beat and dance to the melody or something. And..what the hell are they doing, please tell?? :(
      All the best! RichardXL

I guess as man it is more difficult, but as woman there's just one advice: Feel the music and follow the man. ;)

I just know how they dance in Mexico, and they danced salsa like cumbia... But whatever: I'm not counting while dancing for that case I never noticed how they dance... I just did what they did... :D
